Dressel Spring & Welding Supply began to exchange cylinders as a distributor for the Linde Company in about 1928. In 1940, at the passing of John Dressel , his son Paul assumed the business. The company moved to West King Street in York following World War II. It continued to grow under Paul's direction.
The spring works portion of the business was sold around 1959. The company's name was changed to Dressel Welding Supply, Inc. about the same time. Dressel expanded operations to include Lancaster, PA in1960 and Hagerstown, MD in 1970. In 1982, it was sold to Tom Skehan.
Since 1982, Dressel acquired Penn Oxygen in 1988, opened Carlisle in 1990, acquired Professional Welding in 2006 and is the fastest growing distributor in the market.
